Permanent Linux on unmodded Xbox
It's summarized on ZDnet and explained in detail (including download) here: Using one of the 007/MechAssault hacks, you can now permanently install Linux onto the hard disk, so that it boots every time you turn the Xbox on - without ever opening the Xbox. You can even eject the DVD drive. It works by replacing two font files of the Dashboard.
The hack has been confirmed to work.
A comment of the group free-x, who is responsible for this, can be found at http://lists.netsys.com/pipermail/fu...ly/010895.html.
Warning: If Linux is installed this way, and the Xbox loses the time (because it had been unplugged for several hours), it might be impossible to remove Linux for you right now (Linux will always start instead of anything you put into the DVD drive) , but a solution is being worked on right now. (If you have a booting Linux, you can uninstall it by editing the files on C: again, if you only have the default.xbe without a booting Linux, there is currently no way...)
