Finalmente se pronuncio SONY, el PLAYSTATION 3 (nombre oficial de la consola) vera la luz en marzo del 2006 en Japon, el dia de ayer en el E3 se dieron los primeros detalles sobre la nueva maquina de SONY, se confirmo que la consola utilizara el formato Blu - Ray (con 6 veces mayor capacidad de almacenaje que los actuales DVD's), aceptara tambien los siguientes formatos CD-ROM, CDR+W, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, la consola sera compatible con el PSX y con el PS2.



Al igual que Microsoft con Xbox360, la consola utilizara "de serie" mandos sin cables (hasta un maximo de siete) haciendo uso de la tecnologia Bluetooth. La consola tendra capacidades multimedia tales como el video chat, acceso a internet, visualizacion de fotos, ademas de audio y video en formato digital.

Voceros de Nvidia presentaron el RSX "Unreal Engine" para la PS3 , el cual tendra una potencia superior a 2 GeForce 6800 ultra y podra trabajar con una precision de 128 bits por pixel y una resolucion de 1080p (1920x1080 no entrelazado). Constara con un numero de transistores superior a los trescientos millones (mas que ningun otro procesador disponible comercialmente) y sera fabricado utilizando tecnología de 90 nanometros.
